Ordered these Jean-Michel Cazabat’s on sale today and excited to get them. I love the sleekness and simplicity of it, but the added twist with the slight curvature in the heel. :) Also, tomorrow is a big day. Building my own compy!

Michael Jackson Immortal Tour – Cirque du Soleil

Just saw this show with the Googlers, and now I am about to go through a listening streak of Michael Jackson’s discography again. I think where the Cirque du Soleil really shined was surprisingly with his slower pieces – I Just Can’t Stop Loving You, Human Nature, and Will You Be There. It was crazy that the performers could utilize such an extraneous amount of core strength while gracefully doing acrobatics throughout the air. However, I think they could have done so much more with his theatrical pieces – Bad, Thriller, and Smooth Criminal. These really provided so much of a vivid visual pallette for them to work with, but I often found myself more focused on the original Michael Jackson music video in the backdrop than the live performance going on in front of me. It almost seemed as if the Immortal Tour was a less brilliant version of what Michael Jackson was preparing for his This is It tour. I mean it makes sense, they were missing the most important part, the man himself, Michael Jackson. Cirque du Soleil is great at displaying mind-blowing defiances of human capability in terms of the contortion of the body (the woman on the pole for the Dangerous sequence, and the I Just Can’t Stop Loving You sequence with the two lovers tumbling through the air), but when it comes to just dancing at its core, Michael Jackson is just so, so, so much more captivating, even in a video screen in the background (in particular, the Jam video). A little disappointed they didn’t fully use some of my favorites – Remember the Time, Dirty Diana, PYT, and The Way You Make Me Feel. (I mean, they could have totally mashed up Dirty Diana with In the Closet and Dangerous, it makes perfect sense.) Nevertheless, I think the tour was very comprehensive – songs ranged from his Jackson 5 days to even his Invincible Days. I was so excited when Scream started, and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard lesser known songs like They Don’t Care About Us, The Earth Song, Ghost, and Threatened etc. I did appreciate how Remember the Time was used to transition into different sequences though. And I think the finale with Billie Jean, Black and White, and Man in the Mirror was grand and left the tour on an inspirational note. I just wish they included his pet alpaca as well somewhere in the show, since Bubbles the Chimp was clearly not forgotten.
